====== Sprouting ======

Sprouting is

It can be a way to get fresh vegetarian food or greens in a van. 
===== process =====

The usual process is:

  - a long soak, perhaps overnight, followed by 
  - draining upside down
  - then rinsing/draining upside down a few times a day until desired growth is reached.  A common stopping point is when the grown "tail" gets as long as the seed.  This typically takes 2-5 days. 

Keeping the jar upside down keeps the sprouts moist but not sitting in moisture.

[[https://amzn.to/3ecJmHG|Dedicated sprouting gear]] does exist, though mason jars with [[https://amzn.to/3gHoda8|breathable lids]] (cheesecloth, screen, etc) works fine.  Widemouth jars are easier to clean and remove sprouts from.
