> I spent a lot more putting a [100w] solar rig on my car (Subaru Forester) than I would've buying ice, but it was a fun project and I use the aux battery for more than my fridge (alpicool c20) - powering led lights, running an electric compressor to blow up my paddle board etc. put food in and go. -- golear((https://www.reddit.com/r/boondocking/comments/nfso0o/solar_power_or_ice/gypgh4z/)) | > I spent a lot more putting a [100w] solar rig on my car (Subaru Forester) than I would've buying ice, but it was a fun project and I use the aux battery for more than my fridge (alpicool c20) - powering led lights, running an electric compressor to blow up my paddle board etc. put food in and go. -- golear((https://www.reddit.com/r/boondocking/comments/nfso0o/solar_power_or_ice/gypgh4z/)) |

| > I have a 100 watt solar recharging station with a 100AH AGM and the fridge will run all night off that as long as the batt is full plus run my laptop and recharge gadgets. I think 200 watts solar would be better especially on cloudy days. - solar-cabin((https://www.reddit.com/r/boondocking/comments/nfso0o/solar_power_or_ice/gyphh77/)) |

> I... use an alpicool [compressor refrigerator], in my transit van. It has 200w of panels on the roof and a separate 50Ah battleborn battery for powering things in the back (like the refrigerator). The 200w keeps the refrigerator running 24/7 with very little intervention needed. Every once in a while when it's cloudy for several days in a row I have to plug the van in if it's not getting driven a lot. The alternator charges the back when it's running, with a Victron smart relay in between the front and the back so that the back can't drain the starter battery when the van isn't running. - hoggernick((https://amzn.to/3yqTqb6)) | > I... use an alpicool [compressor refrigerator], in my transit van. | > I have an Alpicool T50, a 200w panel on the roof and a Bluetti EB70. The panel will charge the EB70 in about 6 hours, but it wouldn't really need to as the T50 will run, as a fridge no freezer, single zone, for about 32 hours on the EB70. Overnight run won't require a full charge. Ambient was in the 70s for that test and it will affect the run time if it's hotter or colder. -- piquat(https://www.reddit.com/r/urbancarliving/comments/se470h/keeping_food_cold_fridge_vs_cooler/huiv8uz/)) |

| > have 1,200w solar panels flat on top of my cargo trailer and they produce 3kwh/day over a summer (longer) day. The trailer has a 9,000BTU (120v) mini-split and it operates between 1kwh - 5kwh / day depending on temperature extremes to cool/heat 100sq ft well insulated. -- OffgridInTheCityu((https://diysolarforum.com/threads/mppt-question.24235/post-286138)) |
