Local laws affecting vehicle-dwellers

Some localities, lawfully or otherwise, restrict RV- and van-life. It may be in the RVdweller's best interest to vote with their feet and deprive those localities of their economic impact.

After Martin v. City of Boise in 2019 the approach of ordinances started shifting somewhat for states in the 9th Circuit.1) That ruling

recognized the right for unsheltered individuals to sleep in public when shelter is not available. The ruling allows for reasonable restrictions on when and where people can camp on public property if no other shelter is available.2)

In the list below, preference is given to entries backed up by primary and/or secondary sources. Unsubstantiated listings use the word “unofficial” or similar. Seasonal street parking laws due to snowplowing are not included.
